Out of the box, it comes with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>One Standard USB Cable (USB-A)<\/li><li>One USB-C Cable<\/li><li>One Lightning Cable<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It features a single 3.5 mm headphone jack and two 3.5mm microphone inputs that will work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/understanding-audio-cables\/\">TRS or TRRS<\/a> microphones. Any USB device has an inherent susceptibility to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/power-conditioners-gear-related-noise\/\">interference from your computer\u2019s parts<\/a>.&nbsp; However, 23kHz is outside the range of human hearing so it\u2019s not a huge issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you can listen to test recordings for each microphone used:<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/share.transistor.fm\/e\/680adf6f\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/share.transistor.fm\/e\/826f540e\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/share.transistor.fm\/e\/fd864c92\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rode AI Micro: Cell Phone Tests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I am always iffy with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/editing-production\/how-to-podcast-on-your-phone\/\">recording into a cell phone<\/a>. This is where interference noise is most likely to happen.&nbsp; Let\u2019s take a look at the cell phone recording findings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table alignwide\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>MICROPHONE<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>LOUDNESS IN LUFS<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>RMS<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>TRUE PEAK<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>NOISE FLOOR<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>INTERFERENCE\/NOISE<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>SmartLav+<\/td><td>-32.7<\/td><td>-30.35<\/td><td>-15.46<\/td><td>-72.63<\/td><td>Constant buzz at 23kHz; no hiss<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Lavalier Go &amp; V Lav<\/td><td>-26<\/td><td>-27.31<\/td><td>-6.07<\/td><td>-70.89<\/td><td>No major issues<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>Recording Measurements &amp; Other Findings When Recorded With a Cell Phone<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rode AI Micro Cell Phone Recording Findings Explained<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These recordings were done via the Rode Reporter, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/recording-skills\/best-audio-recording-apps-for-android\/\">recording app<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp; The results aren\u2019t perfect, but they aren\u2019t terrible either.&nbsp; The recording levels are a tad on the low side.&nbsp; It\u2019ll be important to ensure that, if recording on a cellphone, your recording environment isn\u2019t overly noisy since the levels seem to take a slight dip compared to recording via a computer.  The second example is still healthy, however. The first may need some extra editing for noise if the recording environment is noisy. You generally don&#8217;t want to dip below -30 RMS for a raw recording.  The SmartLav+ had the lowest recording levels in the computer test too. This mic may just not be as sensitive as the others used in the testing, which results in lower recording levels in an automatic gain setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second example in the chart is using the dual recording functionality of the AI Micro.&nbsp; I&#8217;ll go over how this works in the next section below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note: via the Rode Reporter app even a mono (1 mic) recording will be recorded as stereo, but to either just the left or right, and will need to be<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/editing-production\/mono-vs-stereo-for-podcasting\/\">split to mono<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"tph-adrotate-shortcode-wrap\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dual Recording<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rode AI Micro can record 2 channels of audio at once.&nbsp; It does it in a bit of a strange way but the result is still separated audio.&nbsp; How it works is that it records mic one on the left side and mic two on the right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\" datatext=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"905\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test.png\" alt=\"Dual Recording Using the Rode AI Micro\" class=\"wp-image-36475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test.png 905w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-768x356.png 768w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-290x134.png 290w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-350x162.png 350w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-445x206.png 445w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-635x294.png 635w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-580x269.png 580w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-700x324.png 700w, https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/mic-bleed-cell-phone-test-890x412.png 890w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 905px) 100vw, 905px\" \/><figcaption>Dual Recording Using the Rode AI Micro<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As it is, one person speaks only on the left side and the other only on the right, which can be a bit jarring.&nbsp; This is an easy fix. Split the stereo file to mono and bring your panning back to center for each track. You will probably need to edit out some mic bleed. The smaller waveform in the above image is when the \u201cguest\u201d gets picked up into the \u201chost\u2019s\u201d mic and vice versa. It&#8217;ll benefit mobile podcasters, journalists, vloggers, or folks doing conference calls. The price tag is $99 CAD or $79 US, which is a steal for an entry point <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-usb-audio-interface\/\">recording interface<\/a> that handles the gain settings for you.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some might find the one headphone jack limiting if there are two people involved.&nbsp; But you can always get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/hosatech-ymm-261-stereo-splitter\/\">headphone splitter<\/a> so two people can both use headphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did occasionally get audio dropouts while playing back in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/recording-skills\/best-podcast-recording-software\/\">DAW<\/a>.&nbsp; This means the interface couldn\u2019t always keep up in playback even with higher buffer settings inside the DAW&#8217;s settings.  This did not occur during conference call tests.  Recording into a DAW there were no issues.
