I&rsquo;m going to quickly run through the Yeti&rsquo;s pros, cons, and even provide some alternatives. Let&rsquo;s dive in&hellip; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading \" id=\"h-pros-what-makes-the-blue-yeti-worth-it\">Pros: What Makes the Blue Yeti Worth It? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can pick up a Blue Yeti brand new for about $120. I&rsquo;d argue that you can buy a great podcasting mic for almost half that, but more on that soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you&rsquo;re getting with the Yeti is a great-looking mic that works right out of the box on its own built-in stand. It&rsquo;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-usb-microphones-roundup-podcasters\/\">USB mic<\/a> so you don&rsquo;t need any additional gear to use it, either. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yeti also has four settings, which&mdash;in theory&mdash;make it suitable for recording various&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/planning\/podcast-formats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">podcast formats<\/a>. You can use it solo, with a co-host, or even with a group of people gathered around it. The group recording approach is often referred to as a &ldquo;roundtable,&rdquo; but you can use a square table if you&rsquo;d prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Table shape aside, buying the equipment needed to record 2-4 people in the same room together can cost more than double the price of a single Blue Yeti. This is no fault of the mic itself. It&rsquo;s just that sharing a mic with others is bad practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an ideal world, each person would record into their own mic. Everyone has their own unique voice and presentation style. From the volume you speak at to the distance you&rsquo;ll typically put between you and your mic &ndash; these are key factors in everything from <a data-lasso-id=\"106128\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/recording-skills\/how-to-set-recording-levels\/\">setting gain levels<\/a> to which <a data-lasso-id=\"106129\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/how-to-use-compression\/\">post-processing<\/a> you&rsquo;ll apply.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Record multiple participants into one single audio track via the Yeti (or any other mic), and you&rsquo;re never going to make it sound great. At best, it&rsquo;ll be passable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yeti performs well as a solo mic (which includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/recording-skills\/best-tools-for-recording-a-podcast-online\/\">recording remote interviews<\/a>), but if you want to add in more people locally, there are better options out there. I&rsquo;ll cover these below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To wrap this section up, though, the Yeti&rsquo;s built-in stand is a big plus if you want a mic that works right out of the box. However, a desk stand won&rsquo;t give you an optimal recording position, and you could end up hunched over the mic. If your podcast is about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XYOmPmbTTGI\">working in the bell tower at Notre Dame<\/a> then this is fine, but for most, it&rsquo;s going to be a problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution here is to spend more money and buy a mic stand or <a data-lasso-id=\"106131\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-microphone-boom-arm-podcasting\/\">boom arm<\/a>. But with each additional purchase you make, the less the Blue Yeti feels like it&rsquo;s worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deeper Dive: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/why-is-my-blue-yeti-fuzzy\/\" data-lasso-id=\"108107\">Reasons Your Blue Yeti Sounds Bad<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading \" id=\"alternatives-to-the-blue-yeti\">Alternatives to the Blue Yeti<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Yeti&rsquo;s downsides sound like they&rsquo;ll be a problem for you, what are some better options?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our most recommended beginner mic is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/samson-q2u-podcasting-review\/\">Samson Q2U<\/a>, which you can pick up for about $70. Like the Yeti, it comes with a desk stand. But you can often find it in podcasting bundles with a boom arm for less than $80! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One big bonus of the Q2U is that it works in both USB and XLR form &ndash; so if you upgrade to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-digital-podcast-recorders\/\">digital recorder<\/a>, <a data-lasso-id=\"107053\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-usb-audio-interface\/\">USB audio interface<\/a>, or <a data-lasso-id=\"106134\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/podcast-mixers\/\">mixer<\/a> further down the line, you won&rsquo;t need to buy a new mic. Remember, the Yeti <em>only <\/em>works via USB. You can&rsquo;t effectively <a data-lasso-id=\"106135\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/microphones\/record-with-2-usb-microphones\/\">plug two Yetis into the same computer<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The benefits of the Q2U can be found in other <a data-lasso-id=\"106136\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/best-budget-mic-options\/\">similar budget mics<\/a>, too. Just be mindful that you&rsquo;ll want one mic for each participant, and should never be sharing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&rsquo;re looking to record multiple people in the same room, you might opt for a Q2U per person, and run them into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/zoom-podtrak-p4-review\/\">Zoom PodTrak P4<\/a>. Just be sure to put some checks in place to make sure you&rsquo;re <a data-lasso-id=\"106140\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/microphones\/how-to-make-the-blue-yeti-sound-better\/\">using it properly<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&rsquo;re shopping around for a <a data-lasso-id=\"106141\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/equipment\/the-best-podcasting-microphones-on-the-market\/\">new podcasting mic<\/a>, though, then hopefully this post has saved you a bit of time, hassle, and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A final hat-tip to the Yeti, though, as I don&rsquo;t want to sound overly critical of it.
