There are loads of different lavalier mics on the market, and not all of them will work with your smartphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading \" id=\"h-lavalier-mics-for-older-smartphones\">Lavalier Mics For Older Smartphones<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Smartphones have changed considerably in the past decade. Older smartphone lavaliers would plug in via 3.5mm headphone jacks, which you rarely see nowadays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you still have an older model with a 3.5mm jack, then looking at a lav mic&rsquo;s plug is an easy way to tell if one will work. Having that extra ring on the plug means it can act as both an input and an output at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&rsquo;s why you can talk through the mic on the default set of earbuds you probably got with your phone &ndash; because it&rsquo;ll be a TRRS plug on there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rode has an adapter &ndash; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/go\/amazon\/rode-sc4-3-5mm-trs-to-trrs-microphone-cable-adaptor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Rode SC4<\/a>&nbsp;&ndash; which lets you turn a TRS plug into a TRRS so you can use non-smartphone lavs into your phone this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a handy option in a pinch, but if the lav you&rsquo;re using isn&rsquo;t battery-powered, you can end up with a very weak signal in your recording. So, if you&rsquo;re recording on your Smartphone, it&rsquo;s generally wise to stick to specific smartphone lavalier microphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading \" id=\"h-lavalier-mics-for-smartphones-without-headphone-jacks\">Lavalier Mics for Smartphones Without Headphone Jacks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 3.5mm jack is becoming less common on smartphones nowadays. Your phone might have a Lightning or USB-C connection instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we covered at the very beginning, the <a href=\"#h-rode-wireless-micro-our-most-recommended-lavalier-mic\">Rode Wireless Micro<\/a> and <a href=\"#h-rode-wireless-pro-highest-quality-lavalier-mic\">Rode Wireless Pro<\/a> are superb options for the more modern smartphone. But, as you&rsquo;ll know by now, many new smartphones don&rsquo;t even have a 3.5mm jack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that in mind, a great alternative is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/go\/amazon\/rode-ai-micro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rode&rsquo;s AI Micro<\/a><\/strong>.
