But with more new podcast hosting providers appearing each month, this space is becoming increasingly competitive. For the majority of independent podcasters, this could be your podcasts\u2019 forever home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notice I said plural, podcasts, and I don\u2019t mean episodes. Transistor lets you have multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/publishing\/what-is-an-rss-feed-for-podcasting\/\">RSS feeds<\/a>, whether public or private, for one price. Other than that, Transistor is so straightforward that writing a review of this podcast host is harder than using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transistor-fm-is-easy-to-start-and-use\"><strong>Transistor.fm Is Easy to Start and Use<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Transistor has a clear interface where all the steps are nice, big, and welcoming. You can drag and drop your audio and cover art files. The 14-day free trial gives you time to test it thoroughly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, I\u2019ve used podcast hosting services where I was grateful for their customer support because I had to use it to understand the interface. While Transistor has a knowledge base one click away (and responsive customer service), you might not need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transistor-fm-amp-audio-files\">Transistor.fm &amp; Audio Files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike some other media hosting services, Transistor doesn&#8217;t compress your audio. Though <a href=\"https:\/\/support.transistor.fm\/en\/article\/how-large-can-podcast-audio-files-be-24xevb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transistor has file size limits<\/a>, they&#8217;re so big that they won&#8217;t affect the average independent podcaster. Transistor says, &#8220;We typically don&#8217;t recommend files any larger than 200MB&#8230;&nbsp;audio files (MP3 is preferred) should be encoded at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/q-and-a\/what-does-44100hz-mean-podcast-sample-rates\/\">44100 Hz<\/a> and around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/editing-production\/what-bitrate-should-i-use-for-a-podcast\/\">128 kbps<\/a> quality.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this doesn&#8217;t make any sense to you, consider this. Episode 6 of <a href=\"https:\/\/jarnsaxarising.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jarnsaxa Rising<\/a> runs just under 25 minutes and has at least eight voices and many tracks of music and sound effects. The audio file clocks in at 29.2 MB. In short, you&#8217;ll be fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-multiple-public-and-private-podcasts\"><strong>Multiple Public and Private Podcasts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We all know that once you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/planning\/how-to-start-a-podcast\/\">launch a podcast<\/a>, you start thinking of other ones you can make. Transistor.fm will let you set up as many podcasts as you want for one membership fee. This is great if you want to make podcasts for your business and personal interests. It\u2019s also excellent if you want to have one public podcast and a second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/planning\/how-to-create-a-private-podcast-feed\/\">private podcast<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/monetisation\/how-to-sell-podcast-episodes\/\">bonus content<\/a>. Transistor now has private podcasting for all price tiers.&nbsp;At the Starter level, they&#8217;re simply unlisted and can have up to 50 members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transistor.fm helps your private subscribers access their podcast, and helps you keep it private. For the Professional and Business plans, each subscriber receives their own RSS feed, an onboarding email, plus a unique website player that tracks their progress through the episodes. If you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/niche-case-study\/podcasting-in-education\/\">teaching a course through your podcast<\/a>, you can even see how far along your subscribers are in the process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transistor-and-youtube-auto-posting\">Transistor and YouTube Auto-Posting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Transistor users who purchase the Professional or Business plan can automatically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/publishing\/how-to-put-a-podcast-on-youtube\/\">send every podcast episode to YouTube<\/a>. Your audio files get converted to &#8220;video&#8221; files, which display your preferred static image.&nbsp; And, Transistor only stores your secure access token in order to talk to the API. They don\u2019t access any of your other Google or YouTube info.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-unlimited-user-logins-for-one-price\"><strong>Unlimited User Logins for One Price<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/planning\/how-to-get-help-with-your-podcast\/\">help making your podcast<\/a>, Transistor doesn\u2019t make you&nbsp;swap around one login. Instead, they allow unlimited user logins for the same account, and with different permissions (either as admins or members). This is great for security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-responsive-embedded-players\"><strong>Responsive Embedded Players<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, Transistor.fm\u2019s player has three buttons that only appear when the user hovers their mouse cursor over the player. The buttons\u2019 options are \u201csubscribe,\u201d \u201cshare,\u201d and \u201cmore info,\u201d which provide the show notes in the embedded player window. The player is thoughtfully created to prevent autoplay from skewing your download data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless src=\"https:\/\/share.transistor.fm\/e\/c52490e5\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A multi-episode player lets you showcase specific episodes. If you have a special <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/promotion\/montage-episode\/\">montage<\/a> episode, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/promotion\/creating-a-promo-trailer\/\">trailer<\/a>, or introduction episodes, you can highlight them for new listeners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transistor-s-integrations-for-audience-engagement-and-analytics\">Transistor&#8217;s Integrations for Audience Engagement and Analytics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Transistor.fm integrates neatly with newsletter and mailing list sites like MailChimp, Convertikit, HubSpot, and more. You can share a link to your episode directly to Twitter\/X, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transistor provides all the basic analytics you need, such as how many downloads over time, and a \u201cbest guess\u201d of the subscriber count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Transistor added an <a href=\"https:\/\/transistor.fm\/changelog\/episode-comparison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Episode Comparison<\/a> feature, which displays daily download numbers for different episodes as a table. If a part of your show notes doesn\u2019t change, you can type it in once, and apply it to all or some of your episodes. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.transistor.fm\/en\/article\/how-can-i-get-sponsors-for-my-adverts-on-transistor-1qb4hr3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transistor isn\u2019t integrated with an advertising network<\/a>, but they recommend a few in their knowledge base.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transistor-fm-pricing\"><strong>Transistor.fm Pricing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/go\/hosting\/transistor-fm-hosting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transistor.fm<\/a> is neither the most expensive nor the least expensive podcast hosting service on the Internet. After your 14-day free trial, pricing works like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Starter: $19\/month, or $190 a year<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Professional: $49 a month, or $490 a year<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Business: $99 a month, or $990 a year&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you pay annually, you get two months for free. Considering its features, Transistor.fm is reasonably priced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These pricing tiers are based on download and subscriber activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Starter: 20K downloads a month and 50 private subscribers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional: 100K downloads a month, 500 private podcast subscribers, plus dynamic ads and show notes, and auto-posting to YouTube<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business: 250K monthly downloads, up to 3K private subscribers, dynamic ads and show notes, auto-posting to YouTube, and you can remove Transistor&#8217;s branding from the player. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re an indie podcaster starting out, that first pricing tier is not a bad place to be. It\u2019s unlikely that anyone would suddenly find their podcast went from 250 downloads a month to 250,000 in a matter of hours. Even if this does happen (congratulations!), Transistor\u2019s policy is to work with the user and avoid surprise charges. Their FAQ says, &#8220;There\u2019s no &#8216;automatic shut off;&#8217; we\u2019ll continue to serve audio for your listeners.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They probably assume that if you want to auto-post to YouTube, you have monetization set up and are willing to invest the extra $30\/month for convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-there-a-downside-to-transistor-fm\"><strong>Is There a Downside to Transistor.fm?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Honestly, I tried to find one. The model of pricing based on downloads (not uncommon) might worry some podcasters, but you&#8217;d be surprised at how high these upper limits are when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/planning\/whats-a-good-number-of-downloads-for-a-podcast\/\">average podcast downloads<\/a>. Put it this way: if your show gets that popular, you&#8217;ll have no problem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/monetisation\/podcast-monetisation\/\">monetizing<\/a> and covering any increased hosting costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since this article was first published, Transistor&#8217;s prices haven&#8217;t increased, but each pricing tier&#8217;s limits have expanded to allow even more downloads and subscribers. Plus, they&#8217;ve added dynamic audio insertion, which is a great feature, especially regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/promotion\/podcast-calls-to-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calls to action<\/a>. Now, independent podcasters get more for their money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are loads of great hosting options on the market these days, but  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepodcasthost.com\/go\/hosting\/transistor-fm-hosting\/\">Transistor.fm<\/a> stands out as an excellent choice for simplicity, ease of use, and premium content.
